
Karl Brueggemann is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and instructor based in Minneapolis, MN. His unbreakable connection to strong groove and memorable melody is present in everything he does. Whether it's composing or performing, his music is rhythmic, exciting and imaginative.
Karl’s love of music was first discovered through the drums, at the age of nine. Since then, this love and connection has continued to grow and flourish. In addition to drums, Karl is also a pianist, guitarist and vocalist. As a child, Karl was enamored by both the sounds of his father's old Beatles mixtapes, as well as the catchy melodies of Sonic the Hedgehog. He started writing original music at the age of twelve, and started playing in bands around this time as well. Throughout his high school years, Karl became more deeply involved in recording and songwriting. He went on to attend Winona State University, and graduated in the fall of 2010 with a degree in Music Business. Karl is now very active in the twin cities music scene, leading the funk-fusion band Karl B & the Soul Surgeons. He also composes original music for video games along with his brother Will, under the moniker Super Marcato Bros. They also host a podcast, which brings to light the legitimacy of game music as an art form. They have been featured panelists at MAGFest and Gamer's Rhapsody.
Karl is also currently a private music instructor, teaching drums, piano, guitar, and mixing.
In 2011, Karl released "Sonicesque, Vol. I", which was a turning point for him as a video game composer. He went on to release four volumes of Sonicesque, which are original albums of music inspired by the Sonic the Hedgehog games for the Sega Genesis. In 2013, Karl went on to compose the original soundtrack to “Sonic Classic 2.” As part of the Super Marcato Bros. he has composed for such projects as Mega Buster, Hello World, Battletub and more. His band Karl B & The Soul Surgeons released their debut album "Electrosurgery" in 2015, and will release their second album "All Rise" in the fall of 2016. Karl mixed both albums, and composed many of the tracks. The Soul Surgeons continue to perform frequently and remain one of the twin cities' most prominent funk groups. Most recently, Karl released an imaginative Fusion/Synth album called "Back in Orbit."
